Digital Accountability & Responsible Engagement (DARE) Initiative

We, as responsible publishers, businesses, and community groups, recognise the impact online platforms have and commit to fostering decency, empathy and positive engagement within our communities.

To achieve this goal, we pledge to:

1. Welcome Diversity and Respect:

We embrace diverse viewpoints and respect people’s right to express them. We encourage respectful disagreements and prohibit personal attacks.

2. Set Clear Standards and Expectations:

We clearly communicate our expected code of conduct, how users can report behaviour that makes them uncomfortable and what action they can expect us to take.

3. Actively Combat Antisocial Behaviour and Harassment:

We are dedicated to creating a safe space for all users. We actively monitor, respond to user reports and quickly address antisocial behaviour, harassment, hate speech and cyberbullying.

4. Share Responsibly and Truthfully:

We are committed to upholding the truth. We fact-check information before sharing it and remove false information as soon as we are aware of it.

5. Help Inform Best Practices:

We provide resources to encourage respectful conversations, facilitating discussions even in the face of differing opinions, by focusing on the topic at hand.

In adopting this Digital Accountability & Responsible Engagement (DARE) Initiative, we aim to contribute to a digital landscape that values decency, supports positive interactions and stands against poor behaviour.

We understand that achieving these ideals requires consistent effort and we are resolute in our dedication to creating welcoming and uplifting online communities.

WAITAKI APP - HOW WE APPLY DARE

We are founding signatories to DARE because we  want  online platforms to be safe places for everyone.

On our platforms, we ask people to behave with decency.  That means we don't tolerate hate-speech, abuse or personal attacks. In disagreements we encourage you to focus on the topic, not the person.

If you see anything that makes you uncomfortable on our platform, you can tag us or send us a link to that content and expect us to assess it and take appropriate action.

People may share our content on the following conditions;

  1. Sharing our content means you consent to abide by the principles of the DARE initiative.
  2. If you are unable to commit to those principles, you may not share our content.
  3. If we see or are notified that our content is being shared in breach of these principles, we will contact the platform owner to remind them of their responsibilities in sharing our content.
  4. If the platform owner(s) or administrators are not willing to moderate, we will ask them to delete our content. Failure to comply could result in the platform page and / or owner being banned from our social media pages.
